Mr & Mrs Lubelle are the owners of a large and busy family home. They approached us to supply and fit a solar thermal hot water system. The challenge was to not only reduce their gas bills but also deliver the high volumes of hot water they needed.
We calculated that the family use a whooping 400 litres of water a day. To supply these quantities of hot water and still reduce gas bills we knew we the system had to be both proficient and efficient. With this in mind, we opted for Genersys collectors as they are famed for their performance, efficiency and build quality.
In total, we installed four Genersys 1000-10 flat plate collectors (8m² collector area) and we replaced the existing vented single coil indirect hot water cylinder with a 320L vented twin coil Newark hot water cylinder.
The solar double pump station set was installed in the loft with the new cylinder in the airing cupboard. The existing cylinder cold water feed along with the hot water distribution pipe-work was upsized to 28mm to improve system flow rates and re-fill times
The solar thermal hot water system installed will contribute an estimated 2805.00kWh of energy towards the hot water heating requirement of the household. The domestic hot water solar fraction is approximately 46.3%. This equates to a CO2 emissions saving of approx 667.4kg/year.
