“Within 30 minutes of the solar panels being switched on the temperature sensor fitted at the bottom of the hot water cylinder increased from 26°C to 58°C giving us plenty of hot water.”
Mr & Mrs Ritson
Mr & Mrs Ritson have two young children and a busy family lifestyle. It was important to them that their home could provide them with all the hot water they needed, when they needed it. At the same time they had concerns regarding rising fuel costs and the impact they were having on the environment.
Mr Ritson was recommended Green Choice Heating by a friend and then researched us on the Worcester Bosch and Low Carbon Buildings Programme websites before giving us a call.
When we visited the Ritson family home we found they had a conventional wall hung cast iron gas boiler which was over 15 years old with a standard copper water cylinder in a bedroom cupboard. The current central heating system was inadequate, inefficient, expensive to run and very environmentally unfriendly!
We replaced their boiler with a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i system boiler and installed a fully programmable 7 day electronic controller. This gives the Ritson family the ability to programme their boiler to suit their routine for each day of the week. This saves the family money as the boiler will not consume gas when not needed but it also ensures the heating is on and hot water available whenever they need it.
Thermostatic radiator valves were also fitted to all radiators to give the family even greater control over the output of each radiator in the house.
Two Worcester Bosch FKT flat plate collectors were fitted to their southerly roof space to the rear of the property and the new twin coil vented hot water cylinder was fitted along with a thermostatic temperature control valve to the outgoing hot water supply pipe.
The estimated solar performance was calculated at 1540.00kWh/year, coupled with the new gas boiler giving the Ritson family an estimated fuel saving in excess of £300 per year.
